Obituary for Edward Smee

Edward Michael Smee, “Uncle Cupcake” of Wheatfield, Indiana, formerly a longtime resident of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.

Many who saw Ed initially were intimidated by his size, towering over most. Once people spent some time with Ed, realized that he was laid back and lighthearted. Ed also had the patience of a saint, sometimes waiting an hour or 2, when you would return, he would never be upset. He loved sharing his excitement over Big Foot with his grandsons, he introduced his daughters and grandsons to his love of drag racing. Ed spent as much time as he could out at US 41 drag strip. Ed would invite and bring anyone to enjoy the day of racing and all the grilled food the drivers would share; he may have washed it down with a beer or two. Amongst all the other things Ed, husband, father and Poppa, there will never be anyone who compares to you “Old Man”. Ed will be missed by so many, especially his daughters, grandchildren and wife Joni of 32 years sharing a “Groovy kind of Love”, forever and ever till the world ends.

Edward is survived by his wife Joni, his two daughters: Jordin (Kenny), Samantha (Dalton), grandsons; Landon, Oliver and Giavonni, and a star to be born who is on the way. His ‘fur’ babies; Monkey, Jojo, Xena, Willow and Bette Davis. Edward was preceded in death by father Norbert Kenderes, mother Mildred (Martin) Kenderes and grandson Nicholas Edward Goodwin.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, luncheon following, on February 17, 2023 at Grace Fellowship, 1424 8th Street Demotte, IN 46310 219-987-7763.
