Obituary for Elmer Liebbe

Elmer Liebbe age 95, of DeMotte, IN passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Valparaiso Care Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Chicago, IL on August 9,1927 to Elmer W and Pearl Liebbe. Elmer attended high school in Beecher, IL and graduated in 1947. He proudly served in the U.S Army from 1950-1952. On September 26,1953 he married the love of his life, Doris. In 1960, they moved to DeMotte and raised their seven children. Elmer had worked at Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, VanKeppel construction company, Beezhold construction and Scaffold rental company, to name a few.

Elmer lived a very active life. He was a member of DeMotte United Methodist Church, DeMotte 40&8, Orak Shrine in Michigan City, Wheatfield Masonic Lodge #642, Lions Club, and a member of the Carpenter's Union
Local 599. He was a Life Member of many organizations that include: the Amvets in Beecher IL, the VFW, DeMotte American Legion, and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He held many officer’s positions in a number of the organizations that he was a member of.

Side jobs include working at Hillside Lanes bowling alley, mowing fairways at Sandy Pines, working at the local Ace Hardware, ambulance driver, and bartender. In his spare time, he was on a league at Sandy Pines and would play a few rounds of golf. During the winter, Elmer would dress up like Santa and go to the Head Start day care center to visit the children. Elmer had worked at Southlake Mall for a few years and numerous years in the Santa’s hut in DeMotte. He was very active in the Fase Senior Center as well. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memories are his children: Diane (Fred) Surma, Brian (Jane) Liebbe, Chuck (Lynn) Liebbe, Stephen Liebbe, Roger Liebbe, Celia (Kevin) Gilleland, and Barbara Liebbe: 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceded him in death is his wife: Doris, parents: Elmer W and Pearl Liebbe: sister: Betty, and brother: Edward.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 9-11 AM at United Methodist Church located at 227 N. Halleck Street DeMotte, IN. Funeral service will be at 11 AM with Pastor Ed Van Wijk Officiating.

In lieu of flower's the family has asked that you make Donations to the Fase's Senior Center in DeMotte or the United Methodist Church.
