Nancy Buchanan age 83 of Demotte, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 20th, 2023. Nancy was born on September 22nd, 1939 to Mallie and Coleman Stokes in Elkton, Kentucky. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Bill, who lovingly called her “Big Red”, her parents Mallie and Coleman Stokes, her sisters Margie Mallory and Virgie Schubert and her little brother Wayne Stokes. Nancy attended school at Union County High in Morganfield, Kentucky. Nancy was a real estate agent in the DeMotte area and enjoyed reading fiction and non-fiction books and gardening. In her younger years at school, Nancy was a bit of a rebel in wearing her pedal pushers to school instead of a dress, cut her beautiful long red hair herself and may have been seen behind the school trying to learn how to smoke. She often said that if she had been born at another time, she would have been a pilot in the service. Her latest and favorite pastime was spending precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy leaves behind her four children; Pam (Neil) Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida, Patti (Harry) Davis of Crown Point, IN, Bill (Leigh) Buchanan and Mike (Gina) Buchanan of Demotte, IN, her precious grandchildren Jennifer (Joe) Watkins, Tyler (Talia) Buchanan, Harry (Kate) Davis, Ashley Truth, Melissa Davis, Chloe Buchanan, Lyric Buchanan, Abigail Buchanan, and Eva Buchanan and her sweet great-grandchildren Haylin Watkins, Joey Watkins, Grace Watkins, Carter Wayne Buchanan, Sonny Buchanan and youngest, Isla Buchanan. Nancy also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom she enjoyed so much, and she was affectionately known as the “fun Aunt”.
Services to be held February 28th - viewing begins at 11a.m. with a service at 1 p.m. at Frazier’s Funeral Home, 621 S Halleck Street, DeMotte, Indiana. Private burial at Demotte Cemetery.
